cambridge small motors call us 519 220 1700

Hi! We’re Cambridge Small Motors and today we’d like to talk to you about something we know inside and out – literally. What do you really need, and what do you really need to know before making a purchase? Could you just rent that?

Here’s a compilation of our best tips for purchasing lawn maintenance tools.

Lawnmower:

Got a lawn? You need a lawnmower. Which one you choose is up to you, but make sure whether you choose a push mower, a self-driving mower, or a ride-on mower that you test it out first to make sure it’s comfortable, adjustable to your height, (and that of everyone else who’s going to be mowing). Your best bet is to buy one with a bag, you never know when that’s going to come in handy (we do, but that’s another post. Trust us, you want a bag). Especially if it’s a push mower, make sure that the mower isn’t too heavy to manoeuvre around the obstacles in your yard like inclines, trees, garden beds and that cast iron bird bath your grandma gave you as a house warming gift.

String Trimmer:

Girl reading in gardenAlso known as a weed wacker or weed eater. Do you need one? Yes! Your lawnmower can’t, okay, SHOULDN’T, go everywhere. Ask the guy who brought his mower in for repair after scraping it on the gas meter. Choose a trimmer you can easily hold, light weight, good balanced grip are key factors in making a decision.

Leaf blower:

You’ll still need a rake, but a leaf blower will help you get at those leaves that land in precarious spots such as on your prize-winning rose bush, or the deck you just stained. Some models also have a vacuum function which helps reduce your raking responsibility. Gas leaf blowers have more power and don’t need to be plugged in, and you don’t have that long extension cord to drag around. Come and talk to Cambridge Small Motors about your needs before you make a final selection.

Bonus Tip:

Invest in a good pair of work gloves, hearing and face protection when you’re working with power tools of any sort. One set should do you for all your powered-up lawn maintenance chores. And always wear long pants, long-sleeved shirts, and close-toed shoes when you’re doing yard work!

There are a lot of tools that come in handy that you can rent from Cambridge Small Motors. Our brand new Cub Cadet edger will make the edges of your garden beds, your deck, and walkways neat and tidy in almost no time at all. We’ve also got the Toro Hydraulic Slit Seeder, Ryan Aerator, Billy Goat Power Rake, and many more lawn and gardening tools available. Come check out our selection of new and used equipment, and best of all, talk to our staff to find out what you really need for your lawn and garden care. We’ve been there and fixed that!
